Admission to the Faculty of Dental Sciences, BHU BDS program is conducted through two quota systems: All India Quota (AIQ) managed by MCC, and Uttar Pradesh State Quota managed by DMET UP. As a Central University, BHU BDS admissions are among the most competitive and transparent in the country.
Step 1 - NEET UG Examination: Candidates must register on the NTA portal at neet.nta.nic.in, pay the application fee, and appear for NEET UG (scheduled May 3, 2026 for NEET UG 2026). The minimum qualifying percentile for BDS is the 50th percentile for General/EWS, 40th for SC/ST/OBC, and 45th for General-PwD.
Step 2 - All India Quota Counselling (AIQ - 15% seats - approximately 9 seats): As a Central University Government college, 15% of total BDS seats (approximately 9 seats out of 63) are filled through the All India Quota via MCC counselling at mcc.nic.in. These seats are open to candidates from any state in India. Steps: (1) Register on the MCC portal after NEET UG results. Pay the registration fee of Rs. 1,500 for General/OBC/EWS or Rs. 1,000 for SC/ST/PwD (non-refundable). Pay a refundable security deposit of Rs. 2,00,000 for General/OBC/EWS or Rs. 50,000 for SC/ST/PwD. (2) Upload required documents. (3) Fill and lock preferences including Faculty of Dental Sciences BHU, Varanasi. (4) Await allotment in multiple rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Mop-up Round, and Stray Vacancy Round. NEET UG 2024 AIQ General category closing rank for BHU BDS was approximately 14,000 to 18,000 in the final round, reflecting its highly competitive government central university status. NEET score of 450 marks and above is recommended for a strong chance in AIQ Round 1 for General category.
Step 3 - Uttar Pradesh State Quota Counselling (85% seats - approximately 54 seats): For the remaining 85% of BDS seats, counselling is conducted by the Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET), Uttar Pradesh, through the portal upneet.gov.in. Uttar Pradesh is an open state for private colleges; however, for government colleges including BHU, UP domicile/residence preference applies in tie-breaking. Reservation norms applicable: SC 21%, ST 2%, OBC 27%, EWS 10%, PwD 5% horizontal reservation as per UP government policy. Counselling steps: (1) Register at upneet.gov.in and pay the registration fee. (2) Upload documents and complete verification. (3) Fill and lock college preferences. (4) Await allotment result.
