M.Tech. in Biotechnology

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology (B.E./B.Tech) in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Bio-Medical Engineering, Bio-Informatics or a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or MBBS.
• Minimum 60% marks or equivalent CGPA for General/OBC category; 55% for SC/ST/Industry sponsored candidates.
• Alternatively, M.Sc. degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Bio-Physics, Biology, Botany, Zoology, Genetics, M.Sc.(Ag) or M.V.Sc. with minimum 60% marks may also be considered for vacant seats.
• Valid GATE score in a relevant paper is mandatory for full-time regular candidates; first preference given to GATE qualified candidates.
• Candidates with any pending backlog in the qualifying degree shall not be considered for admission.

Admission Process for M.Tech/ME Programs:

• Admission is primarily based on a valid GATE score. First preference is given to GATE qualified candidates.
• After offering seats to GATE qualified candidates, remaining vacant seats are filled based on merit prepared by giving 30% weightage to 12th marks and 70% weightage to B.E./B.Tech marks.
• For candidates with M.Sc. as qualifying exam, merit is prepared by giving 50% weightage to B.Sc. marks and 50% weightage to M.Sc. marks (up to end of pre-final year).
• Candidates must apply online through the official TIET admissions portal (thapar.edu). Application fee is ₹ 1,500.
• Shortlisted candidates may be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview rounds.
• Final selection is based on entrance exam scores, academic record, and performance in GD/PI.
