Eligibility Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology (B.E./B.Tech) or equivalent in Polymer Science and Technology, Chemical Engineering, Rubber Technology, Metallurgy and Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Production and Industrial Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Alternatively, M.Sc./M.S. in Chemistry (all branches), Physics, Material Science, or Nanoscience and Technology with minimum 60% marks.
  • Minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA for General/OBC/EWS category; 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA for SC/ST/PwD category.
  • Valid GATE score in a relevant paper is mandatory.
  • B.Tech. graduates from IITs with a CGPA of 8.0 or above are exempt from the GATE requirement.

Admission Process

Admission Process for M.Tech Programs:

  • Admission is primarily based on a valid GATE score, followed by CCMT (Centralized Counselling for M.Tech) counselling.
  • Candidates must first register and apply on the official IIST PG admissions portal (admission.iist.ac.in).
  • After shortlisting based on GATE scores, candidates are called for a personal interview.
  • The final merit list is prepared based on GATE score, academic record, and performance in the interview.
  • For the latest academic session (2026), the application deadline for sponsored category was March 17, 2026, with online interviews scheduled for April 1-2, 2026.
  • Regular admission cycle for 2026 is expected to open around May 2026, with classes commencing in August 2026.
  • M.Tech students with a valid GATE score receive a monthly scholarship of ₹ 12,400 through AICTE.
